Portfolio > The Silk Road

The overall look of this work is meant to be textile-like in nature. India exported textile extensively from ancient times. One of their imports from Southern Arabia was the fine Arabian horse. In the 1500's this was the biggest export from what is today Oman, 10,000 horses a year were shipped to the South Indian State of Kerala.

I went to Mirbat, a horse trading coastal town in Southern Oman much of which is now a heap of stone blocks after a civil war there in the 1960's.The town looked like it had been a very elegant place back in time.
