My photographic images forming the frame of this piece and were taken in the Topkapi Palace in Istanbul. Turkey held an important geopolitical position on the Silk Road both by land and sea. One of the Ottoman Empire’s most used symbols is the Tulip named for the “turban” so often worn there during the Ottoman Empire. Floral patterns were used extensively there in textiles
